Is there a modern equivalent...

to the old 123 and 126 diesels? What I mean is, does anyone manufacture a car that is as simple, reliable, and easy to work on?

Like if a person wanted to buy a new car to keep around a LONG time like that... does it even exist today?

The only one I can even come close to buying for that reason would be the Jeep Liberty 2.8 litre diesel. Very dependable and 4X4 to boot as well as highly regarded by Consumers Union. (Consumer Reports)

Nothing even remotely close to the W123 diesels, Toyota Crown Super Saloon is no longer being made by Toyota, that was the closest deal in sedans, if you want an SUV, the Tempo Judo is a good deal.

nothing that i know of.

if it werent for crash protection i would be attracted to some of the cool looking little cars out there now like the toyota yaro (SP?) or the chebby avio (SP?).

i like the mini but i think i would tire of the rough ride for a daily driver.

the minis are untouchable on the autocross. they should have their own class.

Mercedes ought to just start building 123's and 126's exactly as equipped in their day as a special order.......

Except, now a 300SD would be close to $80k instead of $40k......
