Anybody ever changed the slave cylinder on a 190?

I killed my slave cylinder after replacing the master. Replacing the master cylinder nearly killed me and so I'm not relishing getting under the car now to fix the slave. Has anybody ever done this job? Is it the same setup as the 240D? When I was under the 240D bleeding the clutch I was surprised at how accessible the slave was and kind of mad at myself for not switching it out at the same time. The end result was of course that the slave started to leak soon after and I have that job in front of me as well. Any words of encouragement or discouragement welcomed.

i have never owned a 190 but i would assume the clutch hydraulics are very similar to a 240.

the clutch masters are very tricky to bleed.

how did you kill the clutch mc?

I think that the new clutch masters probably overwhelmed the marginal seals of the slave. Since the slave is the most dependent part of the system some have stated they are vulnerable to corrosion probably compounded by owners who don't change the brake fluid regularly and the hygroscopic nature of brake fluid doesn't help either.

Regarding bleeding the clutch. You are right about the 240D but with the 190D it was not necessary to bleed. I pumped the clutch vigorously, let it sit overnight and what do you know the darn thing was perfect the next day.

Yelowbenz,

Slave cylinder is much easier to replacd than Master cyl.

To bleed U might have to connect a hose from the wheel breake caliper bleed screw to the slave cylinder bleed screw and pump the brakes to force fluid thru the master/slave system.

If U have a common resoirvior for both systems, no problem. If U have separate resoirvoirs, U have to watch the fluid levels in both.

That's what I needed to hear. I nearly broke my neck changing the master in the 240D. Took out the seat to replace the master in the 190D but it was twice as difficult to replace anyway. It's about time I had something to fix anyway. Time to talk to Phil.

Yellow,

U can get a rebuild kit for the slave cylinder. They are rebuilt just like drum brake type cylinders. U need a tiny hone to clean the rust out of the slave cylinder.
