1983 300sd a/c not working

I have just got done installing a new a/c system according to the dieselgiants write-up and info I searched for on this forum.
Now my problem is the a/c compressor wont turn on. I charged the system with r12 by having powered up the temp/press. switch wire. A/C is ice cold inside when I have the compressor jumped out.
I have searched on here and have read posts abou a KLIMA relay? I also read that it was only installed on 85 and up cars?
I also read about the CCU switch on the dash. Mine seems to act a little funny sometimes. It will let more air out of the defrost than the dash vents.
If anybody has any info. much would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

This vehicle has no Klima.

A 12V signal comes from socket #6 on the CCU.

This signal passes through the ETR switch on the evaporator. When the evaporator gets too cold, this switch opens and the compressor relay opens.

If the ETR switch is closed, the relay should close.

The load side of the relay then goes through the pressure switch on the drier. If the pressure is too low, this switch will open and the compressor clutch won't get 12V.

So, your issue is the CCU, the ETR switch, the relay, or the pressure switch on the drier.

Dumb question but where is the compressor relay located?
Pressure switch is new.

As you face the fuse box from the driver's side, the relay should be the second from the right side in the first row (closest to you).

I say "should be" because it's title is "compressor time delay relay". I can't find any other relay that operates the compressor, so, I'm concluding that this is the one.

Maybe Bruce can confirm..........??

Thanks Brian,
I just got in from the garage. Been doing shocks, brakes, new bearings, motor mounts and shocks, steering stabilizer on the 300sd.
Back to the A/C in the morning.
