Yep, and, if you do that, you don't need to force the plate over the top of the tit. It's the best plan.

Okay, back home now. Got the bowden hooked up properly, but still not adjusted correctly. Will do so and report back.

Thanks Brian and all the others for all the help. If I didn't know anything about Mercedes, I probably would have thought about a rebuild from the symptoms.

Makes me wonder what else is needing help on this vehicle.

Help!

I did a search on adjusting Bowden cable and came across this very helpful thread. Thanks guys!

However, the white adjustment nut on the cable broke! Do I have to replace the whole cable or can I just replace the nut? I was able to remove the Bowden cable from the ball and the mounting bracket, but I see no way to remove the cup joint and rubber sleeve so I can remove the old white adjustment nut and put a new one on.

And if I must replace the whole cable/unit, how do I do that on the transmission side?

Thanks,
.....Dan

I have a suspicion that the white adjustment nut is integral to the cable..........but..........not positive.

The transmission side is a very difficult endeavor. Some have done it.......there is some history in the archives.
