I have an 82 300TD that is very slow when starting from 0 to 30 mph. When idling and you step on the accelerator it takes a while to get up to the higher rpms, it also crawls up to speed when starting from a dead stop.I have checked the vacum hoses that go to the tranny and they seem to be fine I have the car in mexico and the altitude here is fairly high but the car worked fine up until about two months ago. any ideas?

Based upon my previous experiences with Pemex fuel, I would start by changing both fuel filters.

slow take off 82 300TD
Well I changed the fuel filters and I put in centerfuged diesel and it still is really slow starting out With the accelerator to the floor it just chugs along until it starts to get into the higher rpms then it takes of quite nicely, but on a steep incline or long uphill it gets down to 20 mph and stays there until you get to the top of the hill. I adjusted the timing on the fuel pump and giot variable results, pulling the pump all the way out, away from the engine, she strats to cough and sputter but when you give her a shot of the accelerator it runs great, pushing the pump all the way in, (towards the engine) it idles really smooth but when you press the accelerator it takes about 5 to 6 seconds to get to 4000 rpms. any more ideas? thanks.

Could be injector pump
My 1980 300D had similar symptoms requiring a rebuild of the injector pump (plunger wear).

It may be really simple. Assuming your fuel filters are okay check the overboast protection control. You can check it by bypassing it. Run the vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold to the overboast protection control (behind the brake booster on the firewall?) straight to the ALDA.

slow turbo wagon
Mario,
Your problem could very well be the ALDA itself. It's rare but they do fail. I actually experienced it once. I bought an 83 300TDT a couple of years ago on a smoken deal. Sometimes I get smoked on smoken deals, but this turned out to be a great car. At any rate my wife was following me in a 560SEL and couldn't understand my problem. I know a turbo 300 won't leave a 560 in the dust, but this wagon acted just as you described. When I got it back to the shop,I went down the list of valve adjust etc. Replacing the ALDA solved the problem.Good luck.
