80C-100C is within normal operating range. My 617 always ran damn near 100C under load, never went above 100C though.

Make sure your fans are working. If your AC is on the electric fan should be turning.

Make sure the guage is right.

You already solved it at this part of your story, why did you replace that thermostat again?

FWIW, I went to the desert the other day with the AC blowing and with four adults and a baby on board, plus a full trunk. It was 90-100F that day, and needless to say I was running at 80mph at a solid 90 degrees C, it would climb to 95 on the steep portions of 395 N, and would go back to 90 or 85 once I'm back on level ground. 82 is already cool, since the OE rated thermostat opens at 80 degrees and is fully open at 87.

mbeige - I was going through the motions of replacing what was old. Since I don't know how long some of the "things that fail over time" parts have been no replaced.
