Speed-O went out ?????

This may get some bad feedback, but here it goes. Today, on the way to work. I have a long streach of I95 with wall between the North and South lanes, NO OTHER CARS! I take it up to ..........well, at 85 mph the speed -O is gone back to zero. I kept into it with a slight let off every 5 sec. until I hit 4200 rpm. I know I am over the speed limit , but how fast is it in top gear in an '85 300D at 4200 rpm???
BTY, The car still had more to give.

I would estimate 95 mph, or so, maybe a tad more.

I need to get the speed-O fixed. I re-adjusted my steering box this last weekend and it feels to nice now, I had to try it out. Sure felt like a lot more. May be the feel of lower to the ground of the car over the F350.
Not something I do often, but..................

I've had my wagon up to about 92.

If your speedo when out you probably broke the cable. Pull the cluster our, and try to pull the square tip out of the speedo cable. If it comes out then the cable is broken. It's an easy fix.

first off, an 85 300D would have a 120MPH or so speedo, not an 85.... so it's very likely your speedo is not correct anyway. the 85 MB's have a taller rear gear, so it has a higher top speed, say 120ish you were probably around 106 or so.
