The copper hard line for the hose in hose is a nice touch but its has to be a ***** to route

dunl 06-07-2007 01:27 AM

That's what I was thinking. Looks like a ghetto-fab job on the tank, but the copper HIH seemed to be a good idea to prevent mixing of fuel and coolant.

ForcedInduction 06-07-2007 02:51 AM

What a cheap hack job.

That thing is a waste of a good car.

Copper shouldn't be used for the fuel line. Aluminum fuel line is cheaper and works better with WVO.

vstech 06-07-2007 09:04 AM

well, at least he is heating the VO... not sure about the looping return back to IP, but what do I know? I thought you had to use steel/aluminum lines to use VO... not so?

It looks like a one tank setup. Which I would avoid. As soon as it gets cold he is going to have starting problems because his stock tank is full of veggie oil. I would put in another tank for the veggie.

Paulc66t 06-07-2007 11:00 AM

Definately a 2 tank system. I have used copper HIH set up for 1 yr w/o problems. A little tough to route initially but it works well.

BioPOWER 06-07-2007 01:26 PM

First of all, I would never run WVO in my cars. Biodiesel is one thing, but with WVO there is just too much to risk.

Second, I would RUN, not walk, away from this conversion. I give credit to the guy for his ingenuity, but the engine compartment looks like a jungle of rubber, and that mess around the diff?? The tank is a total hack job, what if coolant leaks into the fuel? I have no doubt it will work, but for how long, and with how many leaks?

Let's give him credit though...

First, major research was done. It seems that crankshaft pulley problems are somewhat common for this type of vehicle. The following links were very helpful. Mad props to the mercedesshop.com forums.

don't slam the guy. WVO is all experimental. And this one is no different. And he is nicer than 99% of the guys out there for the one simple fact that he is openly sharing all those pics and info on how he did it.

Yeah, it might looked hacked...but maybe it's an early version or still a work in progress.

The Wright brothers didn't start with a Lear Jet.

Hi Dunl, Ive done several grease kits, In Alberta you need a reduntant 2 tank system, Dont even consider a one tank kit, as temp fluctuations could leave you stranded in the middle of summer.

The weather in Alberta can change 20 deg C in just a few hours sometimes.

Here is the type of kit you need to make, 2 Tank heated, Hose in hose heating without using copper pipe as it does affect the WVO, Heated filter and heated injector lines.

I would probably run a second lift pump to make sure you always have flow.

I would use both a coolant and electric heating system.

you can get away with using only 1 6 port fuel switch, Other than personal kits I have sold 2, and advised on several more,

Grease sourcing and filter is as important as the kit.

Work in progress....must be slow going.

I like the galvanized pipe fittings and EMT clamps. It is cheap, but it gets the job done. It is not very pretty though.
