85 300cd ,rough on start up ,smoothes out after a few minutes. What steps?

A find with a very clean body ,the engine bay needed 3 cans of engine degreaser before I would even go close to digging in.New air filter, changed the oil ,new fuel filters, and it runs much better .Still have to do a valve adjustment, would like it to purr right off the bat.It sounds normal after about 3 minutes of ideling.Any other maintenence I can go after?Shes a real beauty ,I can say this is my best find yet

Glow plugs.

Maybe you have some glow plugs not operating correctly?

Check valves, check glow plugs, after those are eliminated, maybe injectors and heat shields, IP timing.

Good luck! I'm a bit jealous, I'd love to find a CD in the neighborhood that was for sale for some reasonable amount of money....

I do still have alot of work to do ,its all around condition is a solid 7 ,the seats are about what you expect ,some rips on the driver .The interior is missing the floor mats ,ash tray ,and radio. The trunk had some trash ,but I did find out were the drivers door panel was located after cleaning it out.So far I cant complain ,the grit and grim work is still ahead with the brakes and valve timing ,I also believe theirs a suspention piece or two I need to go after with the car wandering abit. The advantage I have in my favor to all this is most of the parts Ill need are sitting in my parts car I bought last year ,what was once a Restore project is now to be a parts car for this 85 beauty.Ill post some before and after pics at the end of the Month .
