jack point fixtures
I searched unsuccessfully for an old thread that showed a picture of the expensive fixture that fit into the jack point holes that allowed one to use a floor jack to lift the car. Anyone remember this?

That sounds interesting.....was it something like solid round stock welded at a 90 with a gusset brace and base plate of 1/4" plate that sat on top of the floor jack?

all it is , is a rod with a flat round piece on the end
uhh.. yea what you said.. It has to go in as deep as the standard jack does so not to wreck the hole

Is this necessary, to have a special fixture just to jack the car up?
![]() Here's a jack similar to what I'm calling a floor jack, just in case there's a dispute: http://mymiata.paladinmicro.com/CRALJack04.jpg Ours isn't that one exactly but I mean it's close. That style of jack. All I do is, if the little rubber biscuit is still attached at the jack point under the car (on the bottom, in line with the side spare tire jack holes) I use that biscuit right on the jack. Only one of mine is still attached to the car and not crumbly, however. For the others, I just take a small 2x4 (i think, a piece of wood anyway), say about as long as your toothbrush plus a "AA" battery on the end of it, place that on the jack plate, and then jack the car up that way, centering the 2x4 up on the spot where the rubber jack biscuit normally would be... the relatively soft wood absorbs any indelicate pressures and so forth, and provides a wide and safe jacking point. I just position the 2x4 long-ways, parallel with the car, and just put it far enough under to clear the lip of the plastic trim that goes along the door bottoms. Hasn't damaged anything, and we've been doing this for years with no safety fears (or issues) This is all without noise panels on the bottom, in case it matters.

I think the jack hole fixtures would be great.. you can jack the car up from the frame rail(with a 2x4 on the jack) and put the jack stands under the fixture so you can work under the car without a jack stand in the way

One of these days I will take some photos of the one's made by Lyco Engineering for 300SL's. Those are tougher to jack up without due to the tube space frame. The fixtures work on any mercedes.

I think there's a sort of steel box at the end, IIRC.
