$21,000 1985 300cd

The car is very nice but... 21k jeez.
How does this guy find these cars???
The sad part is, if I had a spare 21k lying around I'd buy it in a minute. :)

Thats about 3x more than any w123 diesel is worth.

The w123 diesel is a great car, one of the best ever made.

BUT its a driver, not a collectors car.

Repeat to yourself, its not a 300 gullwing. Its not even an SL. It will never appreciate in value to $20 K. Its not an investment.

The only reason they are so hot now is the rising interest in greasers and biodiesel. In the next decade, once alternative fuels become more mainstream, the overinflated values on w123s will decline.

That looks about right for the mileage and condition. I saw a 84 with about 35K original miles sell for $25K, but it was a little nicer condition (and it wasn't an 85 or blue, both an advantage IMHO). Any car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I don't understand why people pay $600K for an AC Cobra.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a low mileage collector car because I like to drive them, not look at them.

Very nice but the price is at least 8K too high.. These things are just commanding insane money on eBay though. They're good looking, reliable cars, and so easy to convert to WVO that they go like hot cakes. Once I get the title back for mine it will be on eBay, but I'm betting on $3500 or so.

Yeah, I noticed that too in the pic of the mats/pedals. What is that?

Price may be a little high but I think he can get it. Mr. Diesel has a lot of very nice cars and people looking for the best turn to him. That car must be nothing short of perfect.

KAdams4458 06-10-2007 08:00 PM

I've impressed myself. The wheels I've refurbished for my car look every bit as perfect as the wheels on that beauty. I'm happy that the lug bolts on it are just as fugly as mine, too. :)

Yes, it's a beautiful car, and I'm sure someone out there will pay that kind of cash for it. Not I, mind you. Even if I had the money I'd rather spend it turning a beater in to something that nice. It's way more fun.

For $21k I'd go 560SEC shopping, you can probably find a non AMG 560SEC in similer shape for about that.

Something like this...
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=216136161&dealer_id=54714624&car_year=1986&search_type=both&num_records=25&keywordsfy c=&make=MB&transmission=&model=560SEC&distance=0&make2=&address=06460&default_sort=priceDESC&advance d=&certified=&max_mileage=&max_price=&sort_type=priceDESC&min_price=15000&body_code=0&end_year=2008& keywordsrep=&color=&start_year=1981&drive=&engine=&fuel=&doors=&style_flag=1&cardist=1154

Or cough up another $10k for an AMG wide body.

Or one of these::D

Those are all very nice cars, but none of them interest me very much. Besides, they all violate the "no check engine light rule." ;)

Hatterasguy 06-10-2007 10:37 PM

The 560SEC doesn't have a CE light...;)

Really, there's still hope. But, if I was looking for a "new" gasser sedan it would have to be a 6.3.
