Neutral Saftey Switch

Does anybody know where the neutral saftey switch is located on a 1976 Mercedes 300D (W115 Chassis)? Apparently mine is broken!
Thanks,
Marc

... and I note that your YR/MODEL should have the exact same switch p/n as our 1980(s). See this 2-sided photo at

from this FORUM's parts WebPage. I canNOT believe it is located anywhere else other than where ours are... on the left side of the tranny where the shifter linkage runs and then attaches to a shaft that penetrates the tranny case. This switch fits over the shaft. The new OEM part I order failed to be properly adjustible so that you can start in "P" and "N" and turn on the backup lights in "R"... so out of frustration I drilled out the ~6 brads on my old switch, took it apart and cleaned it up, re-lubed it with a little white grease , and then put it back and held it together with the correct/obvious size screws and nuts so they would not interfere with any nearby rotating parts of the shifter linkage/lever.... and YES, it works like a charm now! So they are fixable.
It is an automatic is it not!?
I hope this helps... regards,

If you already didn't find the switch, it's located on the left side of the transmission, just in front of where the shifter linkage attaches. There's an electrical connector facing forwards on it.

I found great help in this DIY-guide to repairing the switch (although in my case the switch wasn't broken, but it feels good to know it's now fully serviced!).

Neutral Safety Switch R+R!

Regards

yes if not broken they can be cleaned and fixed to work fine, the link in the DIY section is good, sometimes its just all the gunk that gets in the way of working. If you do it yourself pay very close attention to the orientation of all the parts and lever angles, (take a picture) because if she does not go back together the same way you end up in a mess ( ask me how I know)
