Aftermarket Options - 87 300DT Engine Oil Cooler?
My '87 300DT appears to still have the original engine oil cooler and lines. The oil cooler has developed a small leak, such that I need to wipe oil off the bottom of the trim panel about once every week or so. From what I've read, it would seem that both the oil cooler and the lines/hoses to it are living on borrowed time (138K miles).
However, between the lines and the cooler, I'd be looking at over $700 just in parts. With a layoff pending at work, that's a big chunk of change to be laying out right now. One option that has come to mind - remove the factory oil cooler, cut the hose part off of the supply and return lines, attach AN fittings to the metal part of the lines that are left, and install an aftermarket engine oil cooler with braided hoses in place of the factory cooler. Has anyone tried a similar option on their vehicle? Search engine is apparently having problems this morning, keep getting message saying website is unavailable every time I try to search for topics along this line.
