Advice needed

Spoke to a guy about a potential Mercedes 240D for sale. He says it's a 1973 model with an auto transmission and it has run in the last several months but won't start now. Says it has low fuel pressure. Says it's green. I haven't seen the car. Mileage is undetermined; asking price is $600.
Questions are: Is it indeed a '73 model? I have very little knowledge of these but didn't know they had automatics those years. What is the low fuel pressure of which he speaks? Could it be as simple as a plugged filter or is it probably an IP? What are the strong/weak points on these cars?
I'm open to any suggestions or comments. I'm not terribly interested in the car but would like a Diesel and it may be a decent deal. I'm also aware of the potential cost of a "cheap" Mercedes so no delusions here.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate the help I've gotten on this forum.
Chuck.

Not familiar with year. On something that slow, an auto is a detriment. Could be a plugged filter some where, yes.

240D started in 74. A 73 would be a 220D. This is sorta nitpicking as they are similar. 220D might not have power steering. 240D engine is stronger. These cars are kinda primative compared to 123's but are a lot of fun if you get a good one.

Thanks for the advice. I had a friend years ago that had a light blue '75 240D with a 4-speed. I loved that car. At the time I had a '78 300CD. I'm drifting back to the diesel mindset and was, more than anything, trying to get an idea of what this car might really be and also checking the owner out for veracity and knowledge of his own car since I didn't know if they made the 240D in '73. I had also seen a car sitting outside his shop about a year ago that was obviously a 123 and since it looked like crap I am hoping that it isn't the alleged '73.
