Opinion Poll... AutoZone's Axles or New Boots on the Originals?

Hi all,
Just looking for a few opinions (or Facts) on which axle method to use to fix my 1980 300SD Turbo's split axle boots.

Autozone has reman's for $100 per side with a lifetime guarantee.

Astoria's flexx gun is $250 plus the cost of the boots, plus my time cleaning the old axle parts.

The autozone parts look tempting at this point. Just wanted to see what others have experienced.

I've had good luck with remanufactured ones from CVJ Axles in Denver, I don't remember the cost. If you search there is lots of info on them.

In the Auto Parts World, AutoZone is known for selling cheap crap. Yes, you get a lifetime warranty, but do you really want to change the axles again?

You get what you pay for.

Autozone?

Do you have an advanced auto in your area? If so, PM me. I bout NEW (so no core) axels for around $80. The counter guy had to do some homework to get them, because they aren't listed in their computers. I got the hook on the p/n.

As far as AZ parts being cheap crap, I think they are Mercedes parts remanufactured.

Also, not to save AZ's name, but there are several parts they sell that are OEM or remanufactured. Seems like the last few parts I've requested have mfg's that I see in my mbz parts catalogues. (Billstein, etc)

no, they are not. the autozone parts are just used axles machined off to get the boots changed, and they are much weaker than original.

DUDE! matt, post the part # what are ya gonna do? charge for it? come on!
NEW AXLES 80.00??? wow. I want some.

That sounds about right, a much better deal than any AZ junk if your time is worth anything.

I must have about 100K miles on my CVJ axles without any problems.

Cvj

My vote is also for CVJ. My set has only 11,000 miles on them so I don't have the experience that Craig has but they are good products. Although changing the axles is not a bad job, it's certainly not something I would want to do again if there was another way. My total cost for two axles and shipping, plus shipping the old axles (core) back to Denver was $322.19. Their warranty is three years and I don't expect to have to use it.

Advance Auto parts has them for $90 a side and they are new as Matt stated in this and another post today. They carry a lifetime warantee. He said they're working well for him.

Thumbs down AutoZone.......not in this lifetime....!!!

I, personally, would not purchase a bottle of water from AutoZone....much less any auto parts...for any vehicle....well perhaps a Yugo part would be equal to AutoZone's quality......

....but then again, who am I to slander such a fine company....lol

100% Agreed. Crappy parts, crappy counter people (at least in my area). The whole "stand in line and get your parts here, then go stand in another line while someone that came in after you has the right of way" thing just kills me, and has never let me leave the store happy.
