Just received my manual from MB. The CD-ROM I ordered covers the 230 through 300TD turbo. It will prove very useful along with the experts here on the forum to repair my 240D. It will probably be useful to a lot of forum members also. Cost was only $26.96 shipped!

I'll repost Hunter's instructions on how to navigate to the site for anyone itnterested. I don't have any financial interest in sales!

Go to MBUSA website:

move your cursor over the "Mercedes in Depth" pop-up

from the pop-up menu select "Classic"

on the new window that pops up, place your cursor over the "Classic Center" tab

from the pop-up menu select "Technical Literature"

in the new window that pops up, select the "Service Manual" item in the list for "Search by Literature Type", or select your specific model information in the "Search by Vehicle" section.

Don't forget to scroll through the window(s) that pop up for your searches...

In addition to the Service Manuals, many members may find the Owners Manuals and Illustrated Parts Manuals useful...

I have MB's factory manuals on CD and I still prefer the paper manuals.

Hate how it's "organized" and the pictures are the worst I've possibly ever seen. Looks like every page was faxed...twice

Agree with the paper route, (stop laughin'!) if you can find! I have the CD-ROM, it is a bit of a help, pics are horrid, tho.

It's "organized" same as the mercedes parts system.

For W124 and older, indeed the illustrations were scanned to electronic format from printed manuals. Illustration originals were lost in factory print shop fire.

The VERY cheap $26.96 price makes my eyes roll every time someone posts to a forum asking for a torque figure.

I like the books as well, but they aren't cheap. And you can't get one that covers all the 123's there are several volumes needed.

The pictures aren't the best quality, but having the manual even though it's not on paper (you can print the pages you want) is better than not having anything.

I have a lot of trouble with the FSM organization as well. I have an old (17 page) copy of the index that used to be on the MBZ.org website years ago that I use. I can provide a scanned copy if anyone wants it.

Yeah, I've got the cd manual and the pictures are pretty bad. The pics look a little better, though, if you adjust the pdf screen to view the document at the 100% size.

Also, for those who hate the navigation system on the cd's (everyone), you can get an improved index system here:

Personally, even though it has problems, I still think the cd manual is worth buying.

I only saw the 123 service manual available on CD. No 124 listed...? Is there a definitive manual or set of manuals for an 95 E300D? Cost is secondary to quality of information.

I agree that the W123 Service Library CD is well worth the money......each of the 5 "out of print" books go for between $75 and $150 on e-Bay.....depending on condition and who may be bidding.....so would you agree that 20 bucks vs. 500+ bucks is a good deal???

The manner in which the Germans have organized their system is a bit confusing at first.....but if you stand back and imagine the whole system, from vehicle model number, through the maintenance manuals, to the actual part number of an item.....you may begin to see the method to their Teutonic way of thinking.....I don't know about ALL, but most German companies....AEG, Siemens, MAK (Krupp), MAN, Renk, and Westfalia to name a few, all use the same system......

When in Rome, do as the Romans......and when driving a German vehicle, learn the German way......don't ***** because it's not what you are used to here in the USA.....:eek:

The folks at Performance products carry CD's and even have a printed book for the W124.....check their prices.....then go to Amazon.com and look there.....I think that the printed W124 manual that they sell is from Bently Publishing.....don't know anything about it, never needed to look at it, because I have never owned a W124.....maybe someone else can advise as to the usefulness of the book.......I do own the MB Technical Companion from Bently......and it is well printed, and of good quality....:book:
