I think the easiest way of saying what my 83 300TD requires is that it does not need a drivers side fender. I was wondering if it was possible to swap the front sheet metal off an earlier vehicle, making my wagon appear more like this

Nope. You will only be able to use a fender from a W123 to repair it.

Very little will swap bettween a W115 and a W123. Engine, transmission, differential, and wheels are about it.
