I need a motor :(

I'm in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. My motor ate it on the highway tonight and I need to find another one. Any leads? 617 3.0l turbo diesel please, preferably out of a wagon I know this is probably a lost cause, but can't hurt to ask, right? I'm four hours from my home, and my wagon is loaded to the teeth, I really need to drop in another motor asap.
Roger

It may cost you a small fortune, and in the long run probally cheaper for a tow truck for 4hrs, but I found a place in BC that may be able to help you, but it will cost a small fortune to transport an engine accross canada!

When I broke down about 500 miles from home, I found that an auto transport company was cheaper than a flatbed "tow truck." I found a safe place to leave the car (with permission) and had to wait several days for them to pick it up, but it only ended up costing me about $1 per mile (about $500).

Uh..If you're using IE or Firefox, hold down the CTRL key and use the scroll wheel. It can either increase or decrease the size on the screen...

Prolly cheaper to ship the car....

I never knew that, and might I say that your info above may be one of the best things I have ever learned on this forum. I am not worthy.........

It might be cheaper to rent a car dolly from U-Haul, or similar outfit, along with a truck to pull it. You will most likely be out a couple hundred minimum almost any way you go, but you can't really just slap an engine in and just take off from there. You have the added issue of needing a wagon engine with the head driven hydraulic pump. A true rare bird to run across.
Keep us posted on your progress, and your solution. Good luck!

My thermostat was not functioning, so when I blew off a cooling line on the highway at 75mph I had no way of knowing the engine was way to hot until I lost power and saw the cloud of smoke out the back!

I've swapped the motor in this car before, and am pretty sure I could do it in a weekend. It's currently in the back yard of a home where it can stay for a few weeks, so if I can find a motor near here it certainly is an option to just drop in another one. I have all the tools, I'd just need to rent an engine lift.

Also there is a gentleman out in British Colombia, Canada who has successfully dropped a sedan motor in a TD and added an electric pump system for the sls so I no longer feel the need to search for the elusive TD motor. check out his work here - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w123-e-ce-d-cd-td-te-class/1285828-beginning-swap.html?highlight=sls

It appears that kid bought that car with the pump already installed. Too bad we don't know who did the work. I see that is a true Euro wagon. I wonder which side of the pond the work was done on.
That is very interesting though.......

If you were in ontario, I have a 300 TD euro wagon i just picked up that I would consider selling to you(reasonably priced), but being in NB, there really is no options that I can help with.

Check craigslist, kijjiji, and buy/sell papers to see if anyone local has a MB, they could part with. you could always ditch the SLS in the rear, and just go with a standard system.

Canadian MB diesel motors

There is a battered 300D on Craigslist with a working engine in Toronto for $600.

http://toronto.craigslist.org/car/349304968.html

Dunno how bad the "leaks" are.

Alternatively you could call McNally and Fiorli and some of the other indies. They might have some ideas about where to source the engine .... but the freight out to NB will be a killer. I am sorry about ur engine and good luck.

Try this Mercedes Used/Scrap car parts just outside Montreal. All they have there is Mercedes cars. They are big. Maybe they have one. 1-450-630-3320

A smaller Mercedes scrap yard in montreal is Mercedes Bin: 1-450-661-5575

Good Luck
