Fixed! Thanks all for the help/advice, especially Brian for telling me to "not ignore this issue".
I might be crazy, but I feel like my transmission is shifting a little better now that I fixed the broken wastegate hose. Seeing how the hose is broken now makes me realize why I was getting oil residue around the area of the turbo/egr, the boost pressure was shooting it up there, probably as a fine mist. Now I know what to look for next time

you can't see it in this pic, but this is the best one I could find on the forum after a quick look around... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/diesel-discussion/44514d1179964423-w124-93-300d-2-5-boost-problems-i-too-am-stumped-p1010020.jpg here's another photo with the wastegate removed (I think this is the wastegate anyway). this is from a 617 though... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/diesel-discussion/42272d1174181668-failed-wastegate-diaphragm-lmn-kkk-k26-wastegate-vent.jpg related threads.. Proper diameter and material for KKK turbo wastegate hose? Turbo waste gate.

Is that the hose between the sealed manifold and sealed crossover pipe? I disabled the egr system just like in the picture - JUST FOR OFF ROAD purposes only!
