Dang it! Didn't even think about the Euro delivery badge. But I did get something in the trunk that is not shaped like a badge.....
I'll keep looking then,lol.
I wonder if it's possible to order a replacement euro delivery emblem the same way you get the mileage badges? That, or search fleabay and hope to get lucky..

I know I'm playing to a small audience, but this is more for a time line. Always fun dragging another one home, though.
Well, wife was gone all day {good timing}, so my youngest daughter had to go with me to wait for the tow truck and bring home China. For a 10 year old, she is the absolute biggest home body ever. Therefore, she was not amused by this errand.

Geez she's a lot like her mother! She kind of lightened up after seeing China for the first time.

We waited for Larry, the jovial wrecker dude, loaded up, and headed homeward.

Notice that Freeze12 had fogged up the windshield! It sat in the shade while we were waiting for about 15 minutes, and on low setting it sat there around 41 degrees. Mid 80's day though, not hot at all...

These are just a few shots after arrival.

Hood pad has seen better days, and the engine sure looks nice to be locked up. Haven't tried to spin it yet, but the dip stick is very dry.

Trunk is super clean! Not even the hint of a piece of rust anywhere. I don't think this car was ever kept out doors. Until now......
Had an old funky fire ext. thing in the back, along with 3 spare belts for the engine under the spare. {smart}

Under all 4 carpet mats, the floor is just perfect! See what no sunroof will get you...

Interior is what I would call OK. It looks much more Ivory in the picks, but it is semi faded #135 "gravel & pebble beige". Drivers seat has the usual bolster issue, and no arm rest. Seat back was off and laying in the back seat, but after 15 minutes of tucking and fighting I got it slid in and screwed down.

OH, and I almost forgot........

Super nice. With all the W123s in LA, I've never seen that color, nor the two-tone front seats! The engine compartment is very clean too! If it looks that good, I would hope it runs well for ya!

Three cheers for the European Delivery Program!

Good job, Jimmy.

She's a beautiful vehicle. Way too nice to pass up. I agree with the comments regarding the engine. Might not be a serious issue.

Don't mention this to Greg............

That color is my favorite. Same as my wife's "79" except hers has a blue interior. What happened to the engine, only 130K and it died?.. Doesn't matter, that can be fixed, much better than having a rust bucket/beater with a new engine. A low millage, rust free, well kept 123 is a real score and the engine is easily enough fixed or replaced. Where did the engine hanging in your garage come from?
Ah ya, daughters, one of my extra good days was when my daughter came home from collage and fell in love with our newly acquired china blue 240D, What, you actually like something I'm into?? No, we didn't give her that car but bought her another nice manual 240D for graduation.
Good luck with your project, you'll be installing the replacement engine as soon as your outa the dog house then?

It's hard to resist those nice WS123 240D sedans, with the manual, isn't it?

They are a lot of fun to look at and drive. I think you just got a real good one.

Looks like a winner! I love the china blue. If you start swapping the engines now you can have a runner by Monday!

I was just thinking Jim. Of the 123 model cars I have been involved with that required flatbeds for myself and others. Plus the amount of them I see when out traveling on flatbeds. Plus my euro parts car waiting to be picked up now and flatbedded home.
The 123 model might be a candidate for the towing truck association award of the year. I wonder where you apply for it? Would mercedes give me a new diesel if I did not pursure the award and resultant publicity?
Perhaps thats where ebay 123s get their high milage claims as well? My 300d cars get at least forty miles per gallon up there. Your 240d will obviously do better. Especially with the standard transmission.
I have always liked that china blue. It also is a good color choice for up on a flatbed. Especially the painted hubcaps. They set it off well. Nice example. Hope it turns out to be a good one.
At some point when you have time can you tally up the amount of times you have flatbedded a mercedes 123? We could even have the flat bedding king amoungst our own site members.

Great looking car, my favorite color combination and w123. Perhaps the engine didn't start one day, and the owner thinks it's dead? If it is, drop a Turbodiesel in it and you have my favorite car!

I don't know what they did to have the car diagnosed, or who they went to, but the gentleman was very adamant about it being locked up. They loaned the car to a missionary family from their church (my childhood church as it turns out), and they supposedly ran it out of oil. Not sure where the oil was going at 136K, but that is the story.
I guess I first plan of removing the valve cover, just to make sure this isn't a busted chain situation.
What would some of you folks that know way more about this than I do suggest for me to do with this motor prior to just removing it and throwing in the other one?
And the replacement motor came from Scar.
