I got one for free...

The scanned price was $0.01 but the manager discounted it to a give-away because he said if he sold it for a penny that it would lower his store average ticket price for sales. I'll use it for a trunk manual.

I went to the Autozone in Fairfield, CA because the one in Santa Rosa, CA was out of stock

Fairfield had one left and I gleefully took it to the register. The cashier then scanned it, looked puzzled at the 1 cent price, paused, then told me he couldn't sell it to me! Argued but no luck (what are you going to do, eh)

Thought it was silly but oh well

If anyone has any extra manuals they'd like to sell or give to me it would be appreciated.

I ,for one, think the Haynes manual is well worth having, even for real money, much less $.01. It supplements the FSM and provides good quick data from a different perspective. It also shows how to do things more generically without the use of the special factory tools.

Also, if you have a manual transmission car, it provides very useful breakdowns of the shifter , clutch and gearbox that I do not think the regular FSM has. So- get one if you can.

That's true. It does show how to do things in ways a DIY'er can understand them. And yes, the FSM shows nothing on the manual gearboxes or related parts.

Scored!

Last time, I asked them to check the price. It came up one cent, but the "manager" said he'd sell it to me for 4.99 if I wanted it. Since I already had one, I passed.

Tonight, I was looking for something else, and while there I found an old Haynes in the rack. This time, I just walked up to the cashier, and when the total came up, I held out a penny. He gave me a receipt and that was that!

I like the Haynes manual even at full price, but for a penny it can't be beat. Now I have a copy to keep with the car.
