Do I remove turbo when pulling the motor?

I am pulling the motor on the donor 80-300D that has the 617-150. Do I take the turbo off the motor to pull the motor? I know....I am a nimrod, but I need to know and where to start.

Thanks, Don

No- leave it.

In fact , if you were to ask how to get the turbo off, I would suggest you pull the engine first

Nope...

Just disconnect the electrics, hoses, and motor mounts.

Also remove the bell housing bolts if you are leaving the trans in the car...

I pulled mine with the A/C compressor, alternator, etc all attached.

Thanks, and it is the 617-950 motor (not 617-150), my typing error.

LUVMBDIESELS Your signature says to ask about your engine swap...consider yourself asked. Most suggestions are to leave the transmission on the motor to pull it. The tranny in the donor is toast.

Anyway, thanks for the tips and I hope to hear about the engine swap as I will be getting serious this weekend.

Don

pull the engine with the transmission. as long as you have a load leveler life will be much easier. You have to hoist the engine quite high to get it to clear, but it beats crawling under the car to remove the tranny beforehand..you would also have to unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate to get it to come free...all of this is much easier to do when all is out of the vehicle. FSM also says remove tranny with engine for what it's worth.

The donor car has a transplanted 80-300SD motor, a 617-950, but the body is an 80-300D.
