of course not. just think like this... if a bike rider is lane splitting, going around all the cars stuck in traffic... do you think those stuck drivers are in their right minds? or do you think they are stewing due to their predicament? with the # of road ragers out there, a large concentration of cars stuck wasting fuel and time it makes no sense to go zipping past them. when it is ILLEGAL! in most cave man mentalities it's the same as cutting in line. also, it is dangerous! even if somebody doesn't intentionally block you, they may run you over trying to get better position.

Oh, you mean like hitting brakes intentionally to get someone to stop tailgating you? Or spewing out black smoke as to limit the vision of the car behind you??? You are so begging for an accident. And don't give me that crap about.. Well he shouldn't be driving so close to me. Why not do the courteous thing and GET OUT OF THEIR WAY? Or must you be in such control as to limit the speed of others. Unless you are wearing badge I suggest you have no authority to do so. Unless it makes you feel like a bigger man to so that.

Yes I am a cyclist as well. I would NEVER EVER split lanes or anything like that. The car ALWAYS wins! I have had too many friends killed, or nearly killed to even play with that notion. I have also seen IDIOTS out there that insist on slowing up traffic because THEY think the speed should be a certain level. I would offer to you that it is THESE people that are the traffic menace. Why do you think there are laws for people to move out of the way???

And I also believe in the following:

GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY (yes I am a lead foot)

In addition.... lane splitting.... you are not exactly in the view of vision of the car driver. They are paying more attention to the car in front of them.. and probably cursing the whole situation. They are not looking for the motorcyclist running in a blind spot.

Rule number one in cycling...... BE VISABLE
Rule number two... assume you cant be seen.

Rule number one when you are on a bike:

You get hit by a car you lose; you may be technically right, but dead right at the same time...

'54? Did they make them that early? I resto'd a '57 LD for a friend of mine. COOL scooter! I had an Li150 that I eBayed a few years ago -- I couldn't afford to restore it at the time. Wish I still had it. Also had a few Vespas -- a GT, a P150x (with a sidecar!), and a smallframe. I still have an LD parts carcass in the garage, which reminds me... I need to eBay the engine.

Enjoy a ride for me; I miss my scooters!

My father used to call that being "dead right". He spent his career flying, from early supersonic fighter to airbus, liked to err on the side of caution.

I like going fast, but sometimes it isn't worth the risk, not letting temper or ego make your decisions.

FWIW splitting lanes in CA is legal as long as traffic is stopped, doing it at 65 is plain stupid.

As to tailgaters, I've hucked a full can of soda out the sunroof, smashed their windshield. Specifically, we have a narrow bridge, so traffic has to merge from two to one lane, there is a street sign saying "take turns" as a reminder of how to merge. I was already committed to the merge (by a concrete barrier) when a little Mazda decided to speed up and attempt to cut me off, and failed to do so. Once past the bridge, the road widens. I stayed in the slow lane, so did they, honking and gesturing. I opened the sunroof, grabbed a new can of soda with a napkin and tossed the handful out the roof. They quit tailgating me (quit driving too).

It is interesting that my only comment regarded the fact that intentionally putting someone else's life in danger is absolutely criminal. Never once did I condone nor admonish those that wish to drive fast or slow.

I do however admonish those that think their rights trump the rights of others. Following your thinking, smoking should not be outlawed in public places; it impeeds the rights of smokers to engage in their habit.

I guess your right about pulling over, I would rather have someone who thinks they are more important than others in front of me where I can keep an eye on them.

Didn't intend to direct it at you. It was meant in general not at you.

This actually happened, in California.

A motorcyclist was "splitting" two long lines of stopped traffic, when a curious passenger opened his door to get out and see what the trouble was, and the motorcyclist ran right into it, and got pitched bodily into the front seat of .......The POLICE CAR!!!

You got that right. Would rather have them where I can see them.

Lane splitting is crazy. I would never even consider doing something so stupid.

As far as tailgating, If your driving like grandma in the left lane MOVE OVER!!
Move you freekin dumb ass over.
