How much should I pay for shipping from England?

Hey guys! How are you doing?

I found an original 300D 5-speed tranny in England. The guy I'm getting the tranny from is going to send me a quote for the shipping. I asked him to ship it to my freight forward company in Florida, so I can later ship it to Costa Rica.

Any idea of how much should I pay for shipping the tranny from England to Florida? How heavy is a 5-speed tranny? I'm negotiating the tranny, the shift lever and the linkage... I need the cheapest shipping available, because I'm already paying some serious bucks for the tranny.

Thanks for any advice guys!

expect to pay alot for shipping. for curiosities sakes what is the casing number on the tranny?

juanesoto 06-20-2007 10:25 AM

I'll look for the casing number and I'll let you know. I know its from a 300D because this "friend" that is selling me the tranny sent me some pics of the car and the tranny.

How heavy is a tranny? 120 pounds?

the manual should weigh less than 100 lbs.. or close to 100 lbs

if it is alloy like the later 4 speed, more like 60-70 lbs.

If you have a freight forwarder already you should have your seller put it in a crate and let the FF arrange container freight from Europe to Florida or better yet directly to Costa Rica.

Allowing the FF to place the crate in one of their consolidated containers should be your cheapest option.

just something to think about, be sure the 300D the tranny came out of has a 617 in it, if you have a 617 in yours. the euro cars came with 603's in later years... not sure about this, but it won't hurt to be sure.

The tranny should have 3 shifting arms and the casing number should be 115 or 116 and the starter bump on the pass side.

Um, shouldn't a 5 speed have 4 arms? 1,2 3,4 5 and R? Or would it be the same as a 4 speed only 3 arms?

Nope only 3 arms. I've seen both versions and they almost look identical from the outside except at the end of the tranny.

ForcedInduction 06-20-2007 10:12 PM

3 arms. 1-2, 3-4, R on the 4-speed and 1-2, 3-4, R-5 on the 5-speed.
