Milage stats

Just a quick poll.

How far do you average per fuel up?

What is your average MPG?

What kind of driveing d you use your car for?

I seem to be averaging 450miles/tank. About 25mpg.
I drive 40 miles round trip per day, almost completely on highway at 65mph or 55mph.

Here's what you do if it's so cold your diesel fuel gels. Smear some on some toast and stay inside until it warms up outside.

I filled up the other day with 350 miles on the trip OD and the car took over 18 gallons. I was shocked as I consistently get 25 mpg. I figured I had some issue I needed to figure out... well my 15 mile trip from work to home last night ended up only being 5 miles. Issue diagnosed, are there any simple problems with the OD that I can check first?

well, I doubt that a 75% discrepancy would come from gear/speedo changes... plus THAT you would notice in the speedo! I would go to www.dieselgiant.com and look at his pictorial about odometer repair. if you have a D, if you have a SD, the odo usually fails due to the chinzy plastic gears disintegrating.

It depends on the model.

On the 123s slipping odometer repair is really easy. http://dieselgiant.com/repairyourodometer.htm

Thanks for the replies and the link to DieselGiant, I have been there plenty but never looked at that DIY. The car in question is a 76' 300d (115.) Today I noticed the spedometer was pretty erratic when driving at higer speeds (50-60mph.) When I get some time I will inspect the odometer. Until then I will just have to watch the jumpy fuel gauge instead of the mileage.

1 - 570-610 miles per tank
2 - 31mpg
3 - daily driver, 110mi day, 80% @78mph, 20% stop-n-go

This is in the 99 E300 which has a 21.1 gal tank and a reserve light (10L) that works.

my 190, the daily driver, gets 600 miles out of 14 gallons or so. usually always above 40mpg. mixed driving, but not alot of stop and go city stuff. i live in rural colorado.
