Help an '82 300 TD come back from the dead

Hi I posted once and I'm back. Brought a 300 TD back from the dead and it seems to run ok except for a gunked up fuel tank. I've used four of five pre-filters and I'm not sure if I should drop the tank and take it to get it cleaned or fill it with gasoline and try to rinse it out! What is the best thing to Do?
Thanks,
Mati

If there's a station near you that sells high percentage biodiesel (as in 80%+), you could just run a few tanks of that instead of diesel. Better have some filters in the trunk though.

Take it out and take it to a good radiator shop. They usually clean gas tanks as well.

Thanks!

I can't even get the car to run as the pre-filter gets so clogged! A mechanic said I could fill it with Gasoline and let it work the gunk out and drain it. I've already got a gallon rigged in the engine compartment full of Bio-Diesel to get me to the gas station and back. Is this a dumb idea?

1 gallon goes pretty far on these cars,(you are putting both the supply and the return line into the 1gallon tank right?) drop the tank (ain't it easy on the TD's?...) and take it to get steam cleaned. you will need to flush out your lines to the tank, and now is a good time to replace all the rubber connectors on the fuel lines... www.dieselgiant.com has a nice DIY for this. email phil at the buy parts link above. he will have a set of replacement hoses including the "cigar hose" on your doorstep in a few days! (overnight if you are close to one of his depots) have fun!
