UPS Sprinter, 489K miles

I ask the local UPS guy last week about the Spinter van he drives. He said the last one had 489K miles before another driver wrecked it.
I've noted he is not 'easy' on it. The stop/start and rough roads of small contry town delivery has to be hell on one.
I think 489K is pretty amazing.

Just shows that the correct vehicle integrity coupled with a strong maintenance program will give a good return on investment. Probably a moral hidden in there.

not really suprising at all. most well maintained vehicles in commercial use get extremely high mileage.
check the miles on my old astro! (HVAC service truck in charlotte for 12 years... serviced by me!) still going strong... occasionally

Sounds good BUT...

on the job, I talked to a UPS feeder (tractor trailer) driver. That day he was in a Mack that had been scheduled to be crushed. It had just over 2.1 million and he thought UPS would do major overhauls but cost benefit being what it is....

I've had similar conversations with one of our UPS drivers. We're looking to replace a Ford E350 diesel with one. You can't beat the mileage for the carrying capacity! We were going to go with the Dodge but since the Daimler Chrysler divorce I think we'll pay our local Freightliner dealer a visit.

Sprinter

I've talked to a bunch of Sprinter drivers, too -- all of whom spoke glowingly about the drivetrain. They reported good power & fine mileage as well as the durability.

I was hoping they might issue a Caravan with that engine ............
