how do I replace coolant in my 87 300D
I finally registered my 87 300D yesterday and I wanted to change the coolant in it since I have no idea what the PO had in it.
How do I flush the system completely? What fluid do I put back in it?

There are a couple of threads on this procedure, but basically, drain the coolant from the radiator nipple on the lower drivers side of the radiator. There is also a drain in the block on the passenger side under the exhaust manifold. It is accessible from the bottom but is a little higher up. Pop a hose on this, loosen, and let drain out.
It is a good idea to replace the thermostat. It is right above and behind the alternator on the passenger side. It is a little bit of a pain to get to. Search for citric acid flush if you want to go that far. If you have green coolant in there now you may want to skip the thermostat the new thermostat initially, fill with water and drive around a bit to flush. If your expansion tank is original now is a good time to replace it. They have a silica pack in them that replentishes some additives in the coolant and the whole tank should be replaced every so often. As far as refilling goes, fill from the upper radiator hose as well as the expansion tank. For the final fill screw out the three pronged temp switch that is just back from the upper radiator hose and fill through that opening until full. If that switch looks old replace that as well. Drive around a bit, blast the heater, and top off into the expansion tank. If you replace the expansion tank replace the cap as well. As for coolant use Zerex G-05 or MB coolant. There are one or two other approved coolants but the G-05 is probably the easiest to find.
