new to me 93 2.5 turbo

I wanted to introduce myself. I just purchased a 93 2.5l turbo diesel. It is dark grey with grey mb tex. It does have the ASD. Kind of a strange traction device, we use to just call them limited slips however I am sure this one is more advanced. I am not completely new to td benzes. My dad had one of the first 83 td's in the state of NC. He sold that car with 445k miles on it and still ran like a top. He now has an 87 300D and 98 300D TD benz.

Does the 93 have an intercooler? If yes, can it be upgraded? If no, can one be added?

This car I have runs great and is sneaky fast on the highway.

This is a great site.

ps - I am also a Land Cruiser and our family truckster is a 00 Land Cruiser.

welcome!
you have to post some pics of what sounds like a very attractive car!
I see you put your location in the signature line, it is better in the section of user cp designated for location. but it works there too. be sure and follow the "north carolinians" thread that is going on here, it is for a Get together that NC Benz is scheduling. I will try to be there.
let's see your car!

No. Yes but it's a lot of work. There might be kits in Europe for the 603 but I've never heard of one for the 602. The applications are very similar, though.

Look at the pipe that comes up off the turbo and crosses over the valve cover to the intake manifold. That's what you have to replace with an intercooler. There's marginal room for a liquid-to-air intercooler but maybe you can fit one. Otherwise redirect from the turbo to an air-to-air intercooler. It will be very tight to have the intercooler output go to the intake manifold through the same route. What I've seen as an alternative is capping the original intake manifold inlet and welding on a fitting by the power steering reservoir to take the inlet charge.

You can keep the ECU managed vacuum wastegate or replace it with a simpler boost managed wastegate.

Are there any other enhancements that can be done to increase the performance a bit without spending a fortune?

Thanks,

Congrats. Welcome to the club. Never heard of perf mods for the 2.5. Some here have had boost problems (search overboost valve, which can become plugged with soot). Sounds like you've got a runner. Rated at 121 hp and 165 ft. lbs. grunt at 2400 rpm. Expect 28-33 mpg

(for a laugh, go to http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/7830.shtml . It's a government fuel economy Web site that has We have "revised the 1985-2007 MPG estimates to make them comparable to the new 2008 MPG estimates!" Now rates the 2.5T at 23/30 mpg. It's bunk).
