1992 300D Weird Engine Noise

I just bought this 1992 300D 2.5 Trubo with 62000 miles only the car has been well maintained and in very good shape but there is this weird engine noise "tik tik tik" on top of the sweet diesel engine sound as if something's lose in the engine, i checked and its coming from inside the enigne. Someone suggested it might the lifters making this noise since the car has so low mileage. Just worried and afraid, wonder how much its going to cost me to fix this....

Appreciate all input, oh, and 60k service was performed recently by previous owner all recorded, flex disks, serpentine belts and glow plug relay was replaced with oil and filter.

thanks,
Atif

should be a minor problem

With 60K you should be good for MANY more! Those engines are prone to lifter noise. I had one and the lifter ticked for 60K with no problem. My indy mechanic said it wasn't a seious problem. ernie

Did you check the belt tensioner shock absorber? It's known to make a clicking sound when worn out. With the engine idling, put your finger on the shock absorber and see if the noise goes away. It might also be a good idea to check the timing chain for stretch. I recall reading that some of the OM602's had bad timing chains. Using a quality synthetic oil is always a good idea regardless of the engine noise.

So finally ended up replacing all lifters and did an oil change with mobil delvac 1 etc after flushing the engine etc..... now at idling the engine sounds good no lifter noise as if its brand new, after driving it for half an hour or so or a trip on a highway with 60 plus miles an hour or so the lifter noise comes back...I'm really frustrated now, on the verge of selling this thing....any ideas??

I'm in Canada, Toronto suburbs can meet up at Niagara Falls. I bought the car from a fellow member here who's in New Mexico so it is a US car, here you can see some pictures....my cost to bring the car into Canada etc plus the price I paid is $17000 canadian but I know in all reality I won't get all of that back so am willing to take a loss but not too much of a loss, if I'm going to lose a lot than I'll just have to live with the noise. Everything works on the car otherwise and it drives great. I'd let it go for $15500 Canadian.
