First Gen. W126 Rear Window Trim: can it be changed without R&R the rear window?
Has anyone successfully removed and replaced the rear window trim on a first generation W126 without removing and reinstalling the rear window.
My rear window trim is a bit bent up and I want to replace it, but probably not if it means having to removing and reinstalling the rear window.

As far as I am aware, you can't replace it properly without removing the window first.
Removing the window and replacing the gasket is probably necessary anyway after 23 years. The SD needs this done. It's clearly leaking and has some rust up underneath the lip in the trunk. |

I put in a replacement window out of a 1988 560SEL within the last year. I put in a new on gasket then, but used an aftermarket piece. Not too sure the corners were formed to the right angle because it was a real bear getting the trim to stay in place along the top at the middle. I ended up using just a little too much effort with the rubber hammer. I've even considered just pulling the thing out and running without it altogether. The only draw back would be that the window falls out or pops out in an accident.
