Oil Cooler Lines and Oil Pressure
I put in new oil cooler lines (they were both seeping) in the 81-300SD on Saturday...ALL DAY and into the night! What a pain. Anyway, I was driving for the first time for any distance this morning and I am watching the oil pressure gauge. Before replacing the cooler lines, the pressure would be at 3 and lower to the 2 at a complete stop at idle.
Now, the oil pressure stays at the 3 mark...is that too much or is that good? Thanks, Don

It's not possible to affect the oil pressure solely by changing the lines.
Did you remove the oil filter housing for any reason? It appears that the circuit is fully grounded all the time. I'd seriously doubt that you have over 3 bar at hot idle. |

did you put fresh oil in the car after the line change? did you use 20W50 or something? how long do you let the car warm up before it usually drops the pressure? on mine, it will stay at 3 until I have been on the highway and REALLY warmed up the motor. below that, the piston squirted oil has not heated up enough to drop the pressure. after that I get around 2Bar at idle.
is the OP at 3 without starting the motor, but with the key in the run position? if so it's ground, if not it's oil pressure...

I did change the oil at the same time with Rotella 10-40 (I think). I just took it on the highway and it was staying between the 2 and 3 at idle after that. I will watch it over the next few days.
Thanks.

Does the oil pressure stay stuck at 3 after you shut down the engine? Mine did and I found the 1 wire that goes to the oil pressure sender was loose. You might want to check that.
