where do people get parts for old MBs at great prices?

Little things my car needs fixing like the outside temp display sensor... who the heck is gonn pay $450 for that new?

Those parts that you just scratch your head when you see the price on *********************** or any comparable site.

I know there is always going to the junkyard, but are there any other ways?

And can someone explain to me what is PicNPull? I saw someone post about it and am curious. I am 19, almost 20, good with fixing stuff but not reallky any car experience. I am not looking to become a full-time mechanic (already going to college for something else), but I'd like to become adequate in it that I can maintain MBs nicely and even enhance them,

Thanks for the help

Hmm

Where are you located?

Pick and Pull is auto nonmenclature for a junkyard where you pull the parts from the car yourself, and pay for them as you leave. Some pick and pulls have deals where you pay a flat rate, and can take as many parts as you can carry. At least where I am located. It is absolutely not worth it to buy parts that aren't necessary for the reliable operation of your vehicle (that is, temp LCD pieces, window switches, window regulators, power antennas etc) when you can usually buy these parts from a junkyard for so much cheaper. For example, I am helping a friend bring a 300E W124 chassis up to snuff. Window switches cost 34 dollars each, new. We bought four of them from a pick and pull for $8. Find a yard with a car similiar to yours, and go to town.

Regards,
Kyle

I have found this forum to ultimately valuable for getting items from other members. Ebay is a fairly decent place to get parts - being careful about electronic items and complex mechanical items if the seller sound like he bought it at a garage sale. A pick n pull is a salvage yard that allows the buyer to go in a remove the part him/herself at a greatly reduced price.

Any self-service type junkyard is what folks are referring to as a pick and pull. Where are you located? There are dozens around the boston area.

Just do a search for 'used auto parts' in your area and you'll see a listing for some junkyards. Call ahead and see if they have your basic model around or if the have MB at all. Many yards dont!

Just look up junk yards on www.bigyellow.com

At the top of this page and select "Buy Parts" then enter your car info. Generally, you can buy here or at a junkyard. Fastlane here has decent prices for most things, and it's new. New is almost always preferable.

If it's something that is way expensive to buy new, there's the aforementioned picnpull, as well as many junkyards that will let you get parts for much less than new.

Just be careful there because you have no guarantee that the part you bought is better than what's in there now.

I may end up trying to find a junkyard for my speedo cable ($80 FOR A CABLE?!?!?). Anyone know of one in the Houston/Clear Lake/Galveston Area?
