Going to pull the trigger on a 210, is it worth it?
I am looking at a '98 210 with 142K miles, leather, all power works, runs good. Some documentation not all. Been a company car all its life. Has paint chips on bumpers and front of hood, otherwise paint is good, not perfect but good. No side airbags. This will be a daily driver for me, I commute about 90 mi. per day. Cosmetics are not as important as mechanics. I know to look at the spring perches and beware of sticking glow plugs. I can buy it for about 10.5K, I think its a good deal, what do you all think?

That doesnt sound bad.
Check the AC out too as it is expensive to repair. Most of the other stuff that goes wrong is fairly easily fixed; oring fuel leaks, shut off valve, etc. The 98 should have door and curtain air bags up front. The rear seat curtain was added in 99. |
$10.5K sounds like a steal for a '98. They can run upwards of $18K for a pristine example.
I don't see how you can go wrong with it unless the engine is toast. |
Jump on that! What color is it? :D

Don't forget the www.speedtuningusa.com chip!

Sounds like a pretty good deal on the car you describe.
I've had my '98 for about 3000 miles and am really enjoying it! Cheers, John |
BioPower, its black on black. Hot hot hot in the south in the summer:eek: From the feedback I have gotten here I guess I'll try to close the deal tomorrow. Wish me luck.

The black on black will be hell in the south...have the windows tinted dark if they are not yet and it will help a lot. My '98 is very enjoyable, one of the finest cars I have owned. I just put new tires on it today and it rides even better than before and I thought it was great before.
600+ miles on this tank and the reserve light just went on so mine is now averaging 32-33 MPG - the best it has been since I have owned it. You'l likely spend some time and money fixing little things but it will cost you less than the car payment on a Camry and will be a far finer driving experience. |
If it's black on black, and in the south, I'd do one thing before buying: make sure the A/C works! Make sure all vents blow cold air...sometimes mine only blows cold out the center vents, makes for one looooong drive. Mine is black on tan, so I do get a bit of a break inside..
Still sounds like a great car! Go for it! Also, if it has the rear sunshade, you'll absolutely love it. I really wish my TDI had one like the E300. |

Well, I've committed to buy a 210, now tell me I'm an idiot!
I live in Virginia and bought the car from the original owner in Calif. Only details I have on the car are a clean carfax, 146K mi, "everything works" and a bunch of pics. Its a 98. I'll be in the car after delivery for about 11K. I expect the car to need expendables, but hopefully little else. Now you can tell me how stupid I am:eek: If anyone is interested I can post some pics, I have a bunch.
