Gasket sealer - oil sump to the engine block??
I asked this earlier on the Vintage page and didn't get any response so I am going to run it by you guys.
This is regarding my gasser ('72 250) - I don't know what kind of gasket sealer I should use in sealing the upper oil sump (the big one) to the engine block ?? (there's a lower, smaller oil pan - with a gasket - that bolts to the larger oil pan). I tried using an aviation gasket sealer, but when I removed the oil sump I noticed that it really did not seal well around the block - just around the very edges. There is no gasket for this connection, so I'm a little confused. Any recommendations? Thanks, Ryan

I don't know what's spec'd but I've had good results with Permatex Ultra Gray RTV in such applications.

That's the problem - I can't find specifications anywhere - dealer isn't much help and neither are the manuals.

the dealership sells it. Looks like the permatex high temp black stuff and costs somewhere between $10-$15. well worth it considering I would expect to get many many miles out of it after i closed it back up.
