'80 240D HVAC Control is toast
 

Hi all,

I've got a 1980 240D, automatic. It's a new-to-me car. I've done a good bit of reading on the forum tying to figure it out but this is a "Where do I start question?".

I have the Type I manual controls for my HVAC. The problem is the controls are toast, noting works - no fan, no a/c compressor, nothing. I don't know if it's a vacuum, electrical, or mechanical problem. Any thoughts? I have a line on a replacement control unit from a '77 240D but I wanted to make sure that a replacement is what I need before I lay out some $.

p.s. I've been a long time reader and this forum has really helped me on my 300DT. This is my first post because it's the first time I couldn't find the answer to a question by searching!

I would not jump to the conclusion it is the control unless all was working well and everything just quit. It is possible the air conditioning portion died so of course the control cannot influence it. That leaves no blower and could be a separate item itself or it's power supply. A few checks are in order. The control function is simple on your 240d I believe. Basically just switches. Unless you have an automatic temperature controller incorporated that you set the cabin temperature.
