Question E320 CDI owners

(1.) What has been your experience with and impressions of your E320 CDI?
(2.) How many miles do you have on the car?
(3.) What kind of MPG's do you get?

Mine had 37,5xx when I bought it from dealer.

E320 CDI owners

Around town I get 26-27mpg. When I drove to Florida last year I got 36 on the hwy. I bought it with 64.5K and have almost put 10K on the clock. Amazing power. Trying to compare my '85 300D Turbo and the CDI is almost like apples and oranges. Yes they are both MB's and diesel but... Cdi is twice the horse power. It will be the closest thing to a hot rod I'll probably own. Still trying to get use to the power.

I really consider myself lucky to have found an '05 with only 37,500 miles on it and all service at selling dealer where I bought the car. The car looked good enough to be on the showroom floor, and for these reasons I jumped on the car.

I just wish I had the original window sticker for the car.

that's a lot of miles for an '05, still wouldn't stop me from being interested in that beautiful car though

You think 37,500 is bad for an '05....try 82,000 for an '04 (when I bought it). Somebody loved that car!

Still, a CDI is a CDI. And that mileage is not bad at all. Those things are beasts.

Oh, and I found a little present in my E300's leather owner's manual case-thing last week....the original window sticker.

Not really, it went into service 4/04 and that is just 12,000 miles a year. Did you notice the guy that bought one a year ago that had 65,000 and I have seen several used '05's for sale, none have had less the 100,000 miles on the odometer.

Just curious, did you find this beauty in Missouri? Which dealership did you use and did they have similar models available?

thanks

I bought it from MB dealer Foley-Sweitzer Motor Sales, Marion, IL, which is the closest dealer to me. It was only used E320 CDI they had on the lot. My guess is it has never been driven in the salt from the looks of the car.

Funny thing was I was not car hunting at the time, I was there to buy parts for my '91 300D 2.5L the wife is driving these days. When I was told they had a nice used E320 CDI I wasn't really interested in looking because everyone I had seen had 100,000 plus on the odometer. I finally went to look at it just before leaving and fell in love and bought it there on the spot.

For me 37K on an 05 is both high and low for the year. for example my mom bought her 05 passat at 18K and currently has 50K. which is pretty high for an 05 but still low enough that if i was to see it at a dealer for a good price id buy it.

As for the CDI. we can only buy them used here in CA, and although everyone claims they are hard to find i can link 5 of them within 50 miles of SF.
Many of the 05's i find are under 20K(miles), often they are at 8-19K when i do see them listed on craigslist and autotrader. and when i see one with 30+K they are usually at $36-40K and the others are $45K-up.

currently there are 3 06 CDI's on craigslist in the price range of $37-55K and the mile range 8-16K.

So while i still think 37K is high for an 05 id still buy it off the lot with the acception of the price and condition of the car.

Thanks, I will give them a call today a see if I can get one sent to me.

As far as finding lot's low or even high mileage car's one always has to look to large metro city's about 90% of the time. The problem with a lot of the city cars is they are seldom driven long enough or at rpm's enough to keep the moisture burned off or the intakes clean. I am 175 miles from any real metro area, if we want to got to the mall it is a 90 mile drive for us and that is to a small college college town. My Magnum had 35,000 mile and will be in service 3 years in Sept, with an average of 12,000 miles. Over 90% of that was highway miles and included a couple of vacation trips of 1500 miles and one of 4,200 miles, other wise it would have had only 28,000 on it when trade and yet it was considered low mileage in this area when trading.

12,000 miles is below the national average of 15,000 miles per year, and in this area around the town I live in the average car will have about 18,000 miles a year and 20,000 is not uncommon. The reason is so many people live out of the city and commute a hundred miles a day like I did before I retired from theaching. My wife however averages 18,000 to 20,000 miles a year and we seldom take her vehicle on a road trip of more then 25 miles one way, and that's is just to buy fuel and get the car on the highway to blow the soot out and heat the oil hot enough to burn the moisture off the oil.

The '05 will spend 99% of it ownership sitting in a garage, it will mainly be used when we go on road trips. I drove the car home Friday and it has been out of the garage one time for a trip across town to get grandson and back (7miles total) and will not be driven again untill Thursday when I will be going to Dr appointment 90 miles from here, then on over to Marion IL to pick up some parts for the old MB that I ordered. Total trip will be about 330+ miles for the day. Then the car will sit until the 12th of July when it will be driven on a 400 mile trip to go shopping and get a AF base sticker on the car.
