I've heard from a friend, who heard from a guy, who heard from a _____(fill in the blank) that someone around here was using a 0w-40 synthetic in PHOENIX AZ year-round for a few years and going 10k + between changes. Needless to say, his motor finally gave up on him at around 300k (still premature I think for a diesel 616) when he spun a rod bearing probably due to insufficient lubrication. That's a case of "you shoulda been using XXXX motor oil instead."

We do 5,000 mile (approx) changes on both of the SD's using Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w40 turbo diesel oil and a Hengst or OEM filter.

I've gone 6,500 on the oil before and not had a problem, so I am usually somewhat lazy about it when I get to 5k, and end up doing it somewhere between 5,400 and 6,000.

Our 300D has Rotella 15w40 dino oil in it....its barely ever driven, and we had 4 gallons of that oil left in the garage, so I did a change with it....it also has a Hengst filter.

Minivan gets whatever is cheapest at the store, usually dino Autozone brand oil 5w30. Only takes 4 quarts...and we do it every 4k with a fram filter. Its barely driven, so its a looong while between changes.
