dummy light question

hey guys. i don't have the manual for this car so here's the question.

on the dummy light panel, there is one with a circle with dashed lines around it. the parking brake light is next to it.

it flashes for a second when i release the parking brake.

also, different question....a 1990 350sdl brake fluid is dot 3 or dot 4? is it ok to use the valvoline synthetic dot 3 and 4?

The light is for the front brake pads. When the pads wear down and hit the sensors the light turns on. I don't know why it would flash on and off, but that is what the light indicates.

If the car has ASR, both front and rear brakes are equipped with wear sensors.

I flushed and filled with Valvoline Synthetic a couple of years ago. My master cylinder started leaking from the rear seal before I could finish bleeding the brakes. There were no signs of a leak prior to that. Couold have been a coincidence. But I won't be switching to synthetic on an older vehicle again.

I did the flush/refill within a week of getting my 300D home....I use the Valvoline Synthetic in other vehicles as well.....the Valvoline has been in my car's system for nearly a year, and coming up on an annual flush cycle.....no problems at all.....

I would not call that a coincidence, I would call that luck that you were working on the part when the leak you had reared it's head! the synthetic had NOTHING to do with the leak. it was bad before you started bleeding. synthetic brake fluid is better than the cheap stuff. my cars are all at least 25 years old, and ALL of them get flushed regularly with synthetic. never had any problems this way.

Stay away from the silicone brake fluids. Any moisture that gets into the system stays in pockets and corrodes the system. I use Castrol LMA in all of my vehicles now.
