617--engine fumes
 

Currently removing entire air intake system on my 1985 300SD can not take the shaking (vibration) anymore. Replaced bracket and mounts twice . Can I run the fume from the engine into a Moroso catch can with a filtered vent, plug the return drip line at oil pan. Or do I need to run a suction line to the new intake from the Catch can?

If I understand correctly this is like a PCV mod I did to an SS Camaro to stop it from smoking in tight turns.

I would run it to the catch can then to the intake to take care of the fumes.

I ran my crankcase vent into a catch can that drips oil down to the pan and blows the vapor out on the ground. I don't like the idea of running oily vapor through my turbo 'cause I just rebuilt it.

The vapors are trapped in the catch can that is vented . The oil is accumulated in the can witch has a site tube ,the can has to be emptied probably every oil change. Going to plug the old oil return drain from the old set-up at the oil pan.

I just run a hose straight to the ground from the valve cover. The minimal amount of oil collected in a catch can is not worth the space it occupies and money it costs. I also prefer to remove any chance of oil in my intake.

Oil coating reduces the efficiency of the turbo and (In my case) the intercooler. Only clean air goes into my engine.
