Speedometer won't work

I have an 85 300 D turbo with about 225 k on it. I found a great article on how to fix the odometer, the fix worked great. The only problem is after I put everything back together, the speedometer doesn't work. I didn't do anything special to it. Just took the cluster apart, set the speedo aside, fixed the odometer, reassembled the cluster, reinstalled it, and hooked the cable back up. Checked the cable, it's working fine. I would appreciate any advice.

remove and re-install the speedo

Sometimes if the threading isn't in just right then it won't go in al lthe way.

If the odometer is working then you may have broken the speedo.

I just fixed my odometer and had to take it out twice to attach/re-attach parts that I forgot or didn't install correctly... Right now my clock doesn't work :-P
