Fastest 240d around!
Ok i am looking to beef up my 240d i have a 1981 4speed 240d. it shifts great. and i have a 616 in there now. and i have to tell you i am not happy with it at all. getting the finger from people when pulling into traffic is not fun. so i decided to get a turbo 5cylinder from the junkyard (or a 6cyilnder if i can find it.) but mainly a 5cylinder. and i am going to try and make it reliable but yet get under the 14 second mark. i am going to be ripping this engine apart and hot tubbing the block. what would you guys suggest? i would like to keep it daily driver if possible. gas mileage if it doesnt go under 20 i dont care.

I've currently got the fastest "240D" around. :D 0-60 in 13.5 seconds.

lol whats really funny is that my fathers 1.4 liter toyota truck. does 0-60 in like.. 14 seconds o.o gota love 32+ with the ac on.
|
13.5 sec.... that's what, half the stock time?? :D
Not bad! I remember reading that the starter on the 60x engines is on the opposite side of that on the 616 and 617, thus requiring a different transmission. Can anyone verify this? While we're talking 0-60, the E300 Turbo is listed at 8.5 sec......fastest stock IDI Benz diesel! :pleased: |
If you get the power up you might want to consider a better rear end ratio as well. In fact a total donar car just might be more cost effective rather than a yard engine.

auto is actually faster with a turbo engine. you dont loose the spool with it. but any suggestions for the engine? its going to be totally gutted and rebuilt. i dont need a donor car. i dont have the space for it and really i dont need it. i have a huge selection of parts to go through all i need is the rear end and the driveshaft. i will have two 616 engines by time i put this one in.

Thats funny, I know how you feel. I Have a Garret T-3 turbo I am going to be installing in the next couple of months on my 240. I am going to dyno it before and after at my friends shop to see the horse power difference. I know, I have way to much time on my hands.

If I had an automatic, I'm sure I could get into the sub-13 time. |

Sometimes I'll get a bit rough with the clutch on take-off. I can do an unaided burnout on dry asphalt without much effort if I let it get full boost before releasing the clutch (Gotta love the VNT! :D). |
many times have i tried to speed shift. it has ended in "oh my god double clutch"

It's also the worst tranny I've ever tried to shift without using the clutch. |
well i am going to go searching tommarow for a good used 617 engine. hopefully i find one thats not too thrashed.
