603 Heads Rebuilt For $750
Had a VW diesel head rebuilt this week. I asked the rebuilder about the MB 603 heads, if they could be rebuilt if they were cracked or warped. He said that they have rebuilt several with great success. He said that he could rebuild them for $750 but that would not include the camshaft.
Just thought I would throw this into the forum and see what you guys think. Kevin |

There's a rebuilder right here on Long Island called "The Engine House". All they do is rebuild engines. They stated they could do the valves and check the head on the 617, as well.
After they were going to allow .003" on the valve guides and removed the injector locating rings with a hammer and a drift, I realized that all their statements were BS. So, I think that you ought to go with folks who have proven their mettle on these engines and not listen to offhand comments from Chevy rebuilders. |

Success to their income statement or for their customers? How many miles do they have on resurrected -14- heads?

Musta been the same shop that did that -22- head I got -- most of the valves are undersized and ALL of the guides are way oversize -- the valves rattle in the guides. Sigh. Another couple hundred bucks....
If the head is not cracked and the valves aren't worn too badly, $750 isn't bad -- new guides just press in, standard grind on the valves and seats. Surfacing isn't a big deal on that head either if it needs it. Cracks cannot successfully be repaired, unlike the VW/Audi/Volvo diesels. Peter
