e300 turbo vs 350sdl turbo

my car is the 350sdl, and the turbo seems decent but i had nothing to compare it to before. The other day I drove my friends E300 turbo diesel and man the turbo is FAST on that (0-60 is super fast). Does this mean my turbo is not doing too well, or is the e300 turbo just much better?

IIRC the 350 will do 0-60 in about 12sec. The W210 turbodiesel will do it in less than 9

Weight, size, air resistance, they all come into play.
The E300 has 24 valves, while the 350SDL has 12.
The E300 has a 5-speed auto vs. 4 speed.
Yes the E300 will be faster.

It's got very little to do with the turbo and more to do with everything else.

By all means, drive a CDI, it will blow your mind!

The 350 peters out earlier on in the rev range but definitely has more jump off boost.

The E300 has a very smooth 5-speed transmission and 3.07 gearing giving it some awesome acceleration.

E300 will give an E320 gasser a run for its money.
CDI's naturally feel more powerful than they really are because of their high peak torque.

I have raced my friends E300D with my SDL, it got me good. Now I want to get an E430 or E55 to return the favor.

Diesel meet AMG V8.

I wonder if he'd give an E430 a run up to about 75 or so????

After that, the E430's greater HP will rule.

It would be an interesting race. I suspect the E430 would walk, gassers usualy can get a diesel off the line. The M113 has a very flat torque curve, where as the 606 needs to build RPM's to reach peak power and torque.

It would be an interesting race, but I would put my money on the E430.

E430, no doubt. There's a reason they offered a V8, and it wasn't fuel economy. The E300 might hold an E320 on passing power, though.

An E55 would simply walk all over an E300. No way AMG would let the diesel beat its V8. I've driven a CLK55 AMG....those things are killer, no way my E300 could keep up.

i'm always shocked at how fast my chevy dually is after driving the SDL for a while but in NJ traffic there is no need to hurry

Well considering the last E55 had just about 500hp.

I tried to start something with one once on the highway. He gunned it and it was like a slammed on the brakes, no comparision.

Whats 0-60 on the E300D? About 8 seconds? The NA E55 is just shy of 5, and the blown one is about 4.

I just purchased a 1994 S350TD. It has great boost and acceleration when cold but fades as it warms up. My brother has the same model year car and had similar problems with poor boost and acceleration. It turned out that his car had a problem with the EGA (?) switch which regulates boost and turbo function. I suspect my car has a similar problem which I'm checking into. Aside those potential problems with the 350TD, the E300D is probably 1000 lbs lighter with a more advanced and modern diesel which explains the difference in performance.
