where does the black vac line from vac valve go to

The previous owner of my 300d 1980 automatic had half of the vac lines disc. I've finally got them all back where they go, but the black vac line that comes off the side of the vac valve on the IP doesn't connect to anything as it leads under the dash. The same line on my manual 240d 82 disapears up toward the steering column. Does it need to be plugged or does it have a specific place to connect to. Thanks for any help you can give. RAY M

it goes to nothing and is not supposed to be connected to anything. search "black vacuum line" and you'll see tons of topics similar to this.

Thanks
I'll try that search again. I must not have gone deep enough in the post that came up on my search. In that case why is there a vacuum line at all. Is it to keep it from getting dirt in the line. Is it ok to plug this line. I'll look perhaps the answers are in the post in the search. I'll get back with what I find. Thanks for your time Johnhef. RAYM

No, don't plug it. It is a vent line for the vacuum control valve. It terminates in the cabin so that it will be exposed to cleaner air the in would be in the engine compartment.
