I just rebuilt the hoses on my 79TD, the line side of the hose had a 30" black perforated hose connected to the inside end of it. there were no balls or baffles in the hose.
assembly went smoothly. I tried to take a pic, but the stinking battery on my camera was dead, sorry.

well, scratch that...
this morning, making a HARD corner and flooring it from about 10MPH to get on the freeway, stinking NEW hose went POW!!! and I got that wonderful billowing smoke as the exhaust pipe heated it.

waaahhhhh waaahhhhh....
I gotta find a higher pressure hose to replace it with.

it was red, and it came from NAPA. not gates I don't think. lemme go check...

yup, gates,
Multipurpose Oil Resistand 3/8" (9.5mm) Braided 250psi (172KPa) cs05051308 X5 07:19
I guess the next thing is to go up to the steel reinforced 9000PSI hose... it's all they have at NAPA other than this hose.
it BLEW out in the middle of the hose. I can take a pic if you all would like...
just if any of you are using this hose, DON"T MAKE HARD CORNERS AT LOW SPEEDS WITH THE PEDAL FLOORED!!! your hose will burst!

Contact this company.
3000 PSI barrier hose is their lowest rating.

Thanks Roy! I called MB, and they have the MB correct hose for ... 130.00!!! just the hose, no fittings!
um, the NAPA hose is around 45.00... the stuff that burst was around 15...
anybody who is using the 250PSI hose, DON'T be under the hood with a load back there! if a body part was in the way when the hose blew, you could loose it.
I wish I had specified the gates, 6G2 3/8 9.5mm. It cost $14. when I went to get the hose... DUH DUH DUH.
it's nearly 45.00 fot 5' of the hose now at NAPA...

There are many hydraulic shops that could make a complete hose for that price.

I just replaced mine with the gates 6G2 from a local gates wholesaler- Hose, inc (no joke ) it was $17 or so for 4 feet.

This is not the same as you used, correct?? the 6G2 is rated at 4800 PSI working pressure, so it should be fine.

PS_ thanks for the PM on the issue. I have been running mine for 5-6 weeks, and with a pretty good load in there a few times. sorry yours failed, but hey- once you get better hose, the repairs are always easier the second time around.

ya, I got the 6G2 hose and from shut down to test drive took 38mnutes. but I had assistance the second time. MAN that 6G2 hose is SOLID!!!
has anybody else had the tiny perforated hose on the line end of the pressure line?
there were no doodads in my hose, just the slim attached hose on the end of the inner fitting on the line end...

damn, I used the same hose. So whats the lowest recommended pressure rating for this application.

maybe the heat had alot to do with the failure??

Ive been watching that hose, it is starting to bulge at one connector. Probably b/c of the force required to put that fitting on.

The hose I have is rated to 500 psi. It is gates with a NAPA logo. Should probably upgrade

I've been running the Gates 6G2 hose since I first posted this thread. I've put lots of heavy loads in the wagon and it's been holding up fine for over a year.

I have looked over the original hose, and it can't be rated for over 1000psi. it's a thick wall cloth reinforced hose. the 6G2 hose is FAR superior in every way. it will outlast the car for sure.
anybody that did the same as I did, remove it ASAP! it will rupture, and if you are on a trip, you will destroy that very expensive pump.
the 6G2 hose is almost the same price as the 250psi hose, and it is SOOOOO much easier to install. Vise grips latch on solid to this hose, it does not crush like the 250 psi hose does. seriously, just go by 5' of the 6G2 hose and be sure the job is done. if you still have the 250 psi hose, use it for the return, it's a perfect fit for that low pressure job!
