I wonder if it's running on its original ATF? Probably as black as the car by now, eh?
The fluid for the 722.6 is not red new, and MB specificaly says that black is fine in the FSM after it has some time on it.

The NA engines are dogs compared to the later ones, I'd spend a bit more for the turbo car.

Hey Sixto,

If you want to widen your search a bit, I'd be happy to go look at a car for you in Southern California if you find a serious candidate.

siehe da

There is a 1998 E 300 Turbo on the SF Bay Area Craig's List in the 707 area code (i.e. North Bay...) I am sorry to be unable to paste the link, but the vehicle appeared as did this thread.

So there is! I'd prefer 100K fewer miles to a turbo for the same price but I'll definitely check it out. Where the heck is Cotati?

Cotati is just a little bit north of Petaluma, near Rohnert Park, off highway 101 in Sonoma County.....

Funny how people's tastes are different. I just love the look of those front ends. One of my favorites. I just simply can't stomach the Ford Taurus rear end. What an awful backside those models have. HORRIBLE!!

IMHO the W210 is kind of dated looking at this point. The facelifted W211 on the other hand...at night with the Xenon's going look sick.

I didn't say new 722.6 fluid is red

The "old" fluid for the 722.6 was red. The "new" fluid used in the 722.9 and which is backwards compatible with the 722.6, is sort of a purple. I've used them both and am running on the "new" stuff now.

I had a wink after the comment on the black fluid. I know the FSM says it's OK, I'm also aware that they claimed a lifetime fill. I just choose to change mine well before then. I know lots of folks have different opinions on this and I respect their choice to maintain their vehicles as they see fit.

I just happened to notice that there wasn't a red-colored locking plug on the ATF fill cap and it caught my eye. I haven't seen any black-colored locking plugs sold as replacements...just red ones.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm not keen on a black car but maybe tex will make up for it. Kinda pricey though. There are 98-99s in Phoenix for that much from time to time.

There was a 98 in Petaluma last week. 235K miles for under $12K. I couldn't make time to see it. Listing is gone

... and odd that it has 5 prefix plates if it's been in California since new.
