603 into a 1980SD, is it possible?

how hard would it be to put a 603A (don't know what the 'A' is or but he says it is turbo) into a 1980SD?

i have broken the timing chain on my car on the highway and might comsider this if it would be an easy swap.

i might be able to get a new crate engine with all accessories inexpensively.

Possible but far from easy. It would be a tight fit and require custom engine mounts and a different transmission.

Definitely a project!

I suspect that the challenge would not be so much shoehorning the engine into the chassis (although others may have a better idea how much longer the 6-cylinder 603 block is ) but rather in finding and installing all of the bits and pieces that make up the "EDS" (Electronic Diesel System). A late (say, 1984) 617 engine might in the long run be a better choice for a workable installation....

ehh bag that idea then. i am just looking for a good suitable fix for the auto. i probably would not have done it anyways.

if i was going to go through that much work i'd cram a duramax in there or something with an allison.
