240D cooling system OK

Well. It's been over 113 for a few days in Phoenix now. Currently around 115 and I'm having fun driving the 240D around without A/C

When I bought the car it had a problem of not getting hot enough. That is it would never really reach the correct operating temperature. Some months ago I replaced the radiator cap as the original seal was shot and also the thermostat. I awaited the summer in trepidation wondering if there was an overheating problem that had been dealt with by the PO by putting in a lower temperature thermostat. Well. I'm happy to note that no matter how high the temperatures get my temperature needle never leaves the 8 on the 80C position. There are occasions idling in stop and go with the ambient temp around 115 or so when there's a suggestion that it just might show some black between the 8 and the needle but it never quite does so. So at least one thing seems to be working fine.

The aux fan probably has something to do with that as well. I also notice that it comes on automatically whenever the ambient temperature gets up to around 113 or so.

- Peter.
