I'm going to try to get a quote from Highway Freight. The only need the engine on a pallet.

Shipping is easy, and not too expensive. Crating an engine is not. I have done it many times. Banding it to a pallet is a great way to start. So, where do we get the pallet? Most pallets are not constructed for the point loading of an engine. You will probably need to build your engine crate, and if you buy new lumber to do it expect a cost of $100 or more and a half day or so to do it.

It'd be easy if I were the one having to crate it.

different answer from Forward Air

Folks,

I called Forward Air about shipping a short block. I estimated 400 # from San Fran to Raleigh NC. They said $250, 5-7 days. Their only requirement was strapped to pallet (and not leaking fluids), delivered to their terminals, picked up at their terminals. It may depend on the person who answers the phone. Much better than the $1200 I was quoted by Roadway and Yellow LTL.

Chuck

I almost had it all arranged Highway Freight and the deal fell through. Oh well. I'll have to keep an eye out locally.
Forward Air for some reason wanted it crated and not just on a pallet.
I'm not worrying about this anymore.

Take a few days off work and have a good ole fashion road trip. I was going to say fly to Nashville and rent a truck or a moving truck/van but that is $900 for a U-Haul and $1300 for a Penske. Plus the ~$100 airfare. You would probably spend ~$500 in gas... depending what and how you drive.

The engine in Nashville isn't available any more.
